Israel to establish cyber-warfare center

The Israel Defense Forces plan to establish a central body for the intricacies of cyber-warfare, dealing with both attack and defensive strategies. The goal is to have the centre in place in two years.

The decision comes as news of online espionage and industrial sabotage has become more regular. Recently, Israeli operatives were blamed for the latest Kaspersky hack.

Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Gadi Eisenkot explained the decision:
“The IDF has to act in all combat sectors, including the cyber dimension, which is becoming more significant by the day,”

Israeli national Cyber Bureau chief Dr. Eviatar Matania made a statement at the Cyber Tech Conference calling for 8 percent of every ministry’s budget to be spent on information technology and cyber-security. A realisation that the increasing connectedness of online data, businesses and banking has made cyber-security a huge risk in the modern economy.
